Description

The land is classified as Grade 3 under the former Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and is situated within a compact ring fence. The land extends to approximately 419.83 acres (169.90 hectares) and comprises 394.02 Ac of arable, 12.10 Ac of pasture and 13.71 Ac of misc. tracks and rough pasture.

The underlying soil type is classified as being part of the Wallasea 1 series which is best described as a deep stoneless non-calcareous and calcareous clayey soil. This soil series is suitable for winter cereals and grassland.

The topography of the land at Castle Hill Farm is generally level and rises to a height of approximately 5 metres above sea level and is dissected by the Holderness Drain which flows south to the river Humber. The land is bounded by a mixture of mature hedgerows and well maintained ditches. The property falls within the Beverley and Holderness Internal Drainage Board and the 2015/16 Levy is £700.56.

Scheduled Ancient Monument – Swine Castle Hill

The earthwork remains of the medieval Swine Castle are designated as a scheduled ancient monument. The site is situated approximately 200 metres south from the former Castle Hill farmstead in OS Field 5434 and consists of a shallow oval mound surrounded by a rampart and ditch.

From the north (Beverley/Bishop Burton) travel south on the A1079. Continue on the A1033 for approximately 1 mile. At the sequence of roundabouts continue to take the second exit and carry on to Bude Road. After the fourth roundabout turn left onto Noddle Hill Way. Continue for approximately 0.5 miles before turning left onto Castle Hill Road. The tarmacked roadway leads to a stoned track providing vehicular access to the land.

From the M62 continue along the A63 through to Hull city centre. From here travel north along the A1165 for approximately 1 mile. At the roundabout take the third exit onto the B1237. Continue across the mini roundabout, at the next roundabout turn left onto Wawne Road. After approximately 200 meters turn left onto Noddle Hill Way. Follow the road round to the left before turning right onto Castle Hill road.
